Dermaplaning is a method of manual exfoliation that removes vellus hair (peach fuzz) and the top 5-10 layers of dead skin cells with a surgical blade. This triggers cellular turnover, leaving the skin smooth and glowing, and allows for deeper product penetration. Dermaplaning can be an add-on treatment to a Facial or performed as a stand-alone treatment, ideally spaced 4 weeks apart.
Not at all! You may feel a flight scratching sensation at most, but no discomfort.
You may experience mild redness due to stimulation, which should subside within 24 hours. Dermaplaning allows for deeper product penetration so always consult with your provider on what skincare products are appropriate to use after dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning is only temporary. After about 4 weeks your vellus hair will grow out and a new set of dead skin cells will be at the surface. It is recommended to receive a dermaplaning treatment every 4 weeks for the best results.
This is a myth! Vellus hair has a tapered end, which gives it that soft feeling. When hair is cut with a surgical blade, the end is more blunt and noticeable. This is why some people say they see the illusion of their hair being darker or thicker.
It is NOT recommended that you dermaplane at home. Not only will you not receive the full benefits from a sharp, professional blade, but it is not safe. Dermaplaning should always be done by a professional.
